The 4 Cs of a diamond ring in Singapore

· Diamond Ring

We all know that diamonds are to die for (figuratively speaking). The value of a diamond ring is special, which is why it’s used for engagement rings and other expensive jewellery. When it comes to a diamond ring, there are four attributes to consider its value: the cut, carat weight, colour, and clarity.

1. Cut

Diamonds are cut to yield either 2 ideal proportion stones with small carat size or 1 deeper cut stone with large carat size. Two diamonds of the same carat weight with different cuts may differ in appearance. For example, an ideal cut diamond should look larger when compared to a deep cut diamond. It’s important to choose a diamond with better cut quality.

2. Carat weight

The heavier the carat weight, the larger the price. Large diamonds are rare, making them more sought-after. As for two diamonds of equal carat weight, the price may differ depending on the clarity, colour, and cut.

3. Colour

Most gem-quality diamonds are evaluated based on the absence of colour. Pure diamond has no hue, this, holding a higher value. D-colour diamonds are colourless, while Z-colour ones look more yellowish or brownish in comparison. The cut of a diamond will also determine its colour.

4. Clarity

This refers to the presence or absence of flaws in a diamond. The fewer flaws a diamond has, the higher its value. A diamond ring that’s flawless is valuable and exceptionally rare. Minimal surface flaws will have slightly less value. The more flaws present in a diamond, the lesser its value in return.
