3 Lessons I Learned In Maintaining Wood Furniture

· Office Furniture,Home Furniture

When we built our first home, our objective was to have a place we can live in for years and that we can pass down to our kids in the future.

As such, we were not merely looking for quality materials to build our house with, but also long-lasting materials to fill it with—and that includes our home furniture.

For this, we specifically wanted to buy wood furniture in Singapore because they’re known to be classic yet extremely durable. Now that we’ve moved into our new place, it’s up to us to keep them looking as good as new through proper care and maintenance.

In our search for the best maintenance tips on the Internet, I’ve learned a few lessons along the way, which I’m sharing with you in this article.

1. Although durable on their own, wood furniture needs some TLC, too.

It’s said that furniture ages gracefully with time, with its classic charm adding a sense of warmth to your home. But, similar to any other furniture material, they also require some maintenance and attention, too.

There are at least three basic steps to care for your wood furniture. First, dust it lightly and regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth to keep dust from building up. Second, using a damp cloth, wipe any residual dirt and moisture, and lastly, protect your furniture by applying a good quality polish.

2. Living trees love the sun, but wood furniture doesn’t.

While living plants and trees need the sun to grow, your wood furniture doesn’t. So, make sure you don’t place your wood furniture where they may be exposed to direct sunlight for too long.

In our case, there’s not a place in the dining room that’s not exposed to sunlight in the afternoon. So, what we did was we installed window treatments to keep the sunlight from fading, drying, or shrinking our dining set.

3. Maintenance instructions are there for a reason—and it’s for you to read them.

Almost all furniture items sold online or in-store come with easy-to-read maintenance instructions. These should contain information about the material your furniture is made from and how you should take care of them.

Such instructions come in handy when your choice of wood material is particularly high-maintenance as it will guarantee that your furniture will be properly taken care of so it can last for several years to come.

As mentioned above, it’s not only how expensive your furniture is that matters if you want it to last for years, but also how you take care of them. It’s a good thing that I got the best of both worlds, having bought my furniture from Soul & Tables, a reputable home and office furniture store online. My friend recommended this shop when I complimented their coffee table in their home and I fell more in love with their products since!
